Admission Guidelines
A student is eligible for admission to the academic
programs of the Speed School of Engineering upon the basis of graduation from
an accredited high school with at least 20 units or credits meeting the
Kentucky Pre-College Curriculum requirements. Applicants for admission
are required to submit satisfactory scores from the ACT. The minimum acceptable
ACT scores are available from the Office of Admissions. Academically qualified
new freshmen and most transfer students are admitted into the General Engineering
Studies Division.
General Engineering Studies Division
Applicants must have a high school minimum GPA of 3.00, minimum
ACT Composite, Mathematics and Science Reasoning scores of 23, and must
have met the Kentucky Pre-College Curriculum requirements. SAT minimum
scores are 450 Verbal and 550 Mathematics. Transfer applicants with more
than 24 transferable semester hours must have a college minimum GPA of
2.50 in engineering-related courses. Transfer applicants with less than
24 transferable semester hours are required to present scores from either
the ACT or SAT and must meet the admission requirements for both new freshmen
and transfer students. In some instances students of demonstrated ability
may be admitted on a conditional basis, even though there is some deficiency
in academic units.
Pre-Engineering Studies Division
The Pre-Engineering Studies Division is an admission division
administered by the Speed School of Engineering for applicants who do not meet
the requirements for entrance into the General Engineering Studies Division,
who have a high school minimum grade-point average of 2.25 or minimum ACT
Composite score of 16. All Pre-Engineering Studies admitted students are
required to complete 30 semester hours of specified courses with a minimum
cumulative grade-point average of 2.25 in order to be eligible for admission
into the General Engineering Studies Division. Sixteen of the required
thirty semester hours are applicable to baccalaureate degree requirements
in all engineering degree programs.
